Good nudes or Bad nudes?.. Yeah...

I know this is a topic that has been on DA for some time & even one I have brought up from time to time. I read $techgnotic's Blog thingy & noticed the art he shows in it. Thats what I see as art. Not once did he show case bad nudes, only good. Why do I say this? Well because each piece was artistic in some way where what I have a issue is the images I see of "nudes" are not. A snap shot of random guys junk with no artistic reason or value other then to do it & get page views is what bothers me. He talks about Judy Chicago's "The Dinner Party"
or Georgia O'Keeffe's flower paintings as maybe being a base to change a view if they were part of "bad" nudes... really? You say they should be your changing point to think "Hey, I guess I can be ok with the main page swimming in random pe'ni as if it was run by hustler because I like flower paintings." As if that was reality.

So what about the other questions?

1.Do you think there is too much nude subject matter on deviantART or is it a non-issue for you? How much do you think your gender or sexual preferences might influence your answer?

Well lets see, yes there is too much nude subject matter "THAT" is pointless OMG I HAVE BOOBS! or what ever that mean little to nothing as art or lacks even trying. There are many nudes out there & some even racey that I love but some girl who wants to post a boob shot can go to MySpace, not DA thank you very much. Gender & sexual preference have nothing to do with it nor should it. What next, you going to ask if religion is part of it too? Oh Please.

2.When is censorship of art permissible? Where would you draw the line? What rational rule could you offer as a practical guideline?

Censorship should be a law thing & yes I uderstand that I can just change the page or not even go to DA. I draw the line of pointless pictures on DA that you'd see on "Rate Me". Thinking that I'm not being rational is just silly but a rule could be that the nude has to be in a artistic element. Meaning that they have to atleast try to be artsy. Posting a shot you'd see on a tabloid outting a congressmen because they sent their "body" shot to a 18 year old isn't art... it's just a cry for help.

3.Have you ever had a work of art you created censored or banned in any way?

The only time I had a art banned was when some one on DA thought my own work wasn't my own. I got that cleared up so that doesn't apply here.

4.If an artist really believes in what he or she has created, how should the artist respond to censorship of that art? Have you been made aware of an instance of "art suppression" via the Internet?

Are we still talking about nudes? Art suppression is a large subject that is linked to many forms & styles of art for many reasons. Normally goverment & religion play a big part in it. If some one said Child Porn was art whould you suppress it? I know I would because thats sick man... real sick.

5.Would you ever suggest to another artist that he or she should tone a work of art down or agree to the censorship of an art object in a specific situation?


Yes & I have. Hell even DA started with it & now has gotten so laxed about it, anything goes. Again... Child Porn.... are we going to wait till that happens? Maybe it already has & your ok with it...



Anyway, this is pointless. I haven't seen a good nude on the main page for a long time. I may find a jem but it's always overwhelmed by shit. Even some of the old stuff I had in my fav.s are gone... I wonder why... maybe they don't want to be tossed in the gutter like the rest of the trash that valued now a days.
